2012 Mid America Cross Country Series Round 3 Bike Race Report
Obermeyer Yamaha’s Chris Bach Wins, Adam Bonneu & Chris Douglas Podium

The 2012 AMA MAXC Racing Series made its fourth stop of the 10 round series at Lincoln Trails Motorsports. Chris Bach would take the Afternoon Overall win as well as the AA Bike Class win. Rounding out the Afternoon Overall Podium was Adam Bonneu and Chris Douglas.

Lincoln Trail Motorsports featured a six mile course with a good mix of open fields, tight woods, creek crossings, hill climbs, and several motocross sections. The weather stayed in the low 90’s all weekend with a light breeze which made for a hot dusty day at the track.

Despite the hot weather and dusty conditions, Chris Bach took the win by over three minutes in the AA Class at Lincoln Trail Motorsports aboard his Obermeyer Yamaha.

“I got a pretty good start and then right off the bat Steven Squire decided to run it up to the inside of me pretty hard up and I knew right then this thing needed to get right up front and get up front fast. I made a pretty quick move on Nash and once I was up front I knew what I had to do. For the first couple miles I drug my feet a little bit and I made sure I hit every single dust berm and just blew up the trail behind me. I was able to ride my own lines I was able to put down a sprint where they couldn’t see me. I wanted to make a statement on my first time on the Obermeyer Yamaha.” Stated Chris Bach.

#23 Adam Bonneu had a good battle with several riders to gain position before crossing the finish line in second. “We had a good time out there today. I had a terrible start, by bike got a little cold waiting for the 10 second call and it just didn’t want to start right away. But I got going and I seen Chris (Douglas) go by me right away. I really struggled with the dust and trying to ride with some of the guys and when the dust did settle I could catch up with them. Then when we came up to another dusty section they would put another gap on and they would get away from me. I rode with Derik Allan for a couple laps early on and I finally got by Derik and I kept picking off riders and I finally caught Douglas and I had a good line on him coming up a hill and I was able to make the pass stick.” said Bonneu

Making his way up from the back of the pack off the start, Chris Douglas worked his way up to third place taking the final spot on the Mid America Cross Country AA Bike Class Podium before crossing the finish line.

“I was almost dead last off the start. That was the first time I have ever walked all of the track the day before so that helped a lot. I knew there where a couple brakes where I could make passes on the first lap. It helped to get up there really quick. Adam (Bonneu) kept catching me. He came up on me in a field section and I kinda took him out, but he got me shortly afterwards. It was really dusty but fun.” Stated WMR’s Chris Douglas.

In the Amateur ranks, #123 Austin Lee once again took a win in the Open A class. Lee finished almost seven minutes ahead of second place #696 Luke Chilman and Alex Witkowski in third.

The Heavy B class had a good showing with eighteen riders on the starting line. #346 Michael Mason from Mooresville, IN would take the win. #930 Cole Orman and #244 Brett Fult rounded out top three.

The Youth Bike classes at MAXC round 3 were once again packed with riders with over ten riders in each class.

In the SuperMini Bike class, Spider Graphix’ Mike Witkowski from North Liberty, IN took another win aboard his KTM. #127 Vincent Smith and #177 Zach Meuron finished out the top three in second and third.

#324 Kayden Young from Liston, IN won the 85cc Bike class followed by #20 Tyler Darmon and #515 Landon Feltner.

In the 65cc Bike class #71 Lance Maschino took the win on his Kawasaki. #145 Kale Cline from Camargo, IL placed second followed by #229 Logan McNeil in third.

This race is a special race for the MAXC Racing Series because all of the proceeds from the race will go directly to Riley Children’s Hospital to benefit children in need.

There will also be a benefit family fun ride the day before the race on Saturday June 16, 2012. Last year MAXC was able to raise over $20,000. The goal this year is to raise $50,000 for the Riley Children’s Hospital. Come out for a weekend of fun, racing, and a great cause!
