Chris Bach Wins, Adam Bonneur & Chris Douglas Round Out Pro Podium

Bloomfield, IN - AMA National MAXC Racing headed to Bloomfield, Indiana for Round 2. A new location and venue to the AMA MAXC Racing Series, the River Run MAXC is located less than 45 minutes Southwest of Bloomington, IN. The AMA MAXC River Run was one of the most challenging courses in AMA MAXC history, as the various terrain and weather at River Run MAXC played a major part in racing action.

When racers arrived at AMA MAXC Round Run Round 2, they immediately saw the new AMA MAXC Racing Semi parked on top of a hill where the main parking area was located. The custom wrapped semi served as the center of pro row and featured the announcer’s stand and live scoring screen.

Race day started off with a cold breeze that blew through the pits with overcast skies. Although the weatherman called for temperatures in the high 60’s, temperatures remained in the high 40’s with rain moving in towards the afternoon. With the soft sandy terrain, the River Run MAXC laid claim to many racers as the track proved to be very challenging.

After taking the win at the 2013 AMA MAXC Opening Round at Monster Mountain XC, Chris Bach came back to earn yet another win at the MAXC Racing Series. Taking the win by almost 10 minutes #10 Chris Bach made his way around the sandy 8 mile track to earn to the win on his KTM 350.

“I knew Adam (Bonneur) was going to be really fast this race, this is his kind of terrain. I got up front and at the end of the first lap and I looked back and I saw him (Bonnuer) and Squire. I tried to push on the second lap and then I came in to get gas and they said that I had a pretty good lead” stated Carolina KTM’s Chris Bach

“I didn’t have a good start. I think it was a three kicker. I made some passes early on in the faster stuff. I got up to 5th and I could see Ricky Russell and I knew Derrick Allen was right behind me, Squire was ahead of me and I could see Chris Bach. I just tried to get comfortable and things didn’t happen for me very quickly. Bach kinda got away and Squire ended up making a mistake and so did Ricky (Russell) so I just fell into second. I tried to reel him (Chris Bach) in but that wasn’t working so well. I just kept my head down and stayed out of the mud holes” explained FMF’s Adam Bonneur

Bloomfield, IN (5/13/2013) – AMA National MAXC Racing action fired back up at round 2 this past weekend at River Run in Bloomfield, IN. A new venue to the MAXC Racing Series, the River Run MAXC took place less than 45 minutes Southwest of Bloomington, IN. Racers were in for one of the most challenging courses to date, as the diverse terrain and weather at River Run MAXC would put racers to the test.

Like clockwork, Indiana weather can change within the hour and that was just the case with AMA MAXC Round 2. The weatherman called for clear skies and temperatures in the high 60’s for Saturday’s race. As luck would have it, racers were greeted with overcast skies with a cold wind that blew through the pits.

Although the clouds began to dissipate as the day progressed, the weather would take a turn for the worse as the ATV class anxiously waited for the green flag the drop.

As if Mother Nature herself was watching the race, torrential rainfall began to flood the already rough track as the white flag waved signaling the final lap. It would be Ballance Racing’s #3 Taylor Kiser who would cross the finish first followed closely by Lonestar’s Adam McGill just one second behind Kiser. MAXC Pro ATV Rookie Brycen Neal would round out the Pro AA ATV Class Podium in third.

When the green flag dropped for the start of AMA MAXC Round 2, it was PKG Powersports’ Kevin Cunningham who grabbed the Holeshot on his HMF powered Honda 450R ATV. Although Cunningham took the early lead, he would soon fall victim to the rough track and got stuck in the deep ruts and thick mud allowing the rest of the Pro ATV field to get by. Cunningham would then have to work his way back up from the rear of the pack and was able to make it up to finish a respectful sixth place in the Pro ATV class.

“We got off to a great start. I was leading and then I got hung up for about 5 minutes or so. I had to get out of that and by that time I was riding with the B class. I came through the second lap and I caught up to McGill and Kiser, but then we got into a bottleneck. I had to wait my turn to get through and they found another line around and I just got held up the whole day basically” explained MZM Performance’s Kevin Cunningham

Precision Racing’s Adam McGill would grab a decent start of the line and would soon work his way up to the number one spot of Kevin Cunningham. After holding down the lead, McGill would make a pit stop unaware that the white flag was about the drop allowing Taylor Kiser to make the final pass into first place.

Bloomfiled, IN (4/26/2013) - After a successful opening round with KCCR Series at Monster Mountain XC in Canaan, Indiana, the AMA National MAXC Championship Series will head to Bloomfield, IN for MAXC Round 2 on May 11th.

Dubbed the AMA MAXC River Run, round 2 is an all-new venue to the ever-growing AMA MAXC Racing Series. Located less than an hour from Bloomington, IN the MAXC River Run is nestled on the outskirts of Bloomfield, IN.

The AMA MAXC River Run venue got its name from the White River than runs right through the property. This new venue should produce some great racing action, as the track will feature many elevation changes with sandy soil very similar to the Black Hawk MAXC that took place last year in Culver, IN. The AMA MAXC Crew have been working hard to put together an exciting course for both bike and ATV racers. The track will be 8 miles in length and will feature around 2 to 3 miles of single track for the bike racers and many wider sections for the ATV racers. Despite the track running along side the White River, there will be no deep creek crossings and many precautions have been made to insure this – incase mother does decide to soak the track. Several bridges have been laid across the creek crossings to eliminate any deep-water crossings during the race.

So far, it looks like the weather man is calling for partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging in the mid to high 60’s which is sure to make for some great weather for racing this weekend in Bloomfiled, IN.

The Youth Bike Class is set to kick off the event Saturday morning at 8 a.m. followed by Youth ATV Class at 9:15 a.m, and the Peewee Class at 10:15 a.m. The adult classes will start with the Adult Bike class leaving the starting line around 11:30 a.m. and the Adult ATV Class at 2:30 p.m.

Chris Bach Wins Pro AA Class, Ricky Russell, & Chris Douglas Podium

The 2013 AMA MAXC Racing Series kicked off this past weekend at Monster Mountain in Canaan, Indiana. For the opening round, the 2013 AMA MAXC Racing Series chose to co-sanction with the Kentucky Cross Country Racing Series (KCCR), which drew in over 400 race entries and over 1000 spectators!

Although just a bit on the chilly side during the morning hours, racers were greeted with clear blue sky for Saturday’s racing action.

For the second year, the AMA MAXC Racing Series returned to Monster Mountain as is it one of both racer and spectator fan favorites. Located in the heart of Southern Indiana’s hill country, Monster Mountain is nestled on top of a hilltop clearing with plenty of grass parking. The track was around 8 miles long and featured many virgin trails, high-speed field sections, a few hill climbs, and a rugged creek section – which was home to the Unabiker Waterfall climb.

There were 19 Pro AA Bike racers that lined up in row 1 to do battle at the 2013 AMA MAXC Racing Series opening round at the Monster Mountain XC. Among the line up was many of the top XC Bike racers in the country including 2012 MAXC reigning Pro AA Bike Champion Zach Nash, Chris Bach, Chris Douglas, Adam Bonneur, Steven Squire, Duell Murphy, and Austin Lee – just to name a few.

Earning the number one spot on the AMA MAXC Pro AA Class podium is no stranger to the AMA MAXC Race Series podium – Chris Bach. For 2013, Bach has made the move to an all-new race program. No longer on a Yamaha, Bach has made the switch to a KTM 350 backed by Carolina KTM, WP, and Ride PG. Over the off-season Bach trained in Florida with 4x defending GNCC XC1 Pro ATV Champion Chris Borich and several other top ATV Racers including Chris Bithell, and Johnny Gallagher.

“It’s kind of fun hanging out with a different group of guys that have a different perspective on things. One thing for sure they can make a track definitely rougher than a bike can. It’s actually really good training to go ride with those guys,” explained Chris Borich of his winter training in Florida with the ATV Racers

After starting around mid-pack, Bach was patient moving up towards the front of the pack, so he didn’t get roosted with mud and could save his goggles. After hanging back a little bit, Bach started to make several passes towards the front and gained the lead after Russell got caught up in some lapped riders.

“I didn’t have a very good start. I really didn’t expect to get a great start. I kind of planned accordingly and I walked the track earlier and I found some pretty good lines so I was able to get threw a couple of those guys pretty quick. Once we got into the muddy stuff the roost was so bad the first lap I had to lay back a little bit to save my goggles. Once I got into the tacky dirt, I was able to make some moves up Ricky (Russell). We were going pretty good then we came into a bottleneck and I was able to get through it pretty quick. Once I knew I had a gap (on Ricky Russell) I just put the hammer down” stated Chris Bach of his race at MAXC Round 1

#212 Ricky Russell made his way from Washington State to race the opening round of the MAXC Racing Series. After rounding the first corner towards the front of the pack Russell made the essential passes to gain the lead, however he dropped back to second place after getting stuck behind a lapped rider.

For 2013, Cincinnati, Ohio’s Chris Douglas made switched from KTM to a Hall’s Cycles Huskavarna and he looks to be just as fast as he was last year. Douglas rounded out the Pro AA Class podium in third after working his way up to a podium position after coming off the bike the first lap.

Canaan, IN (4/17/2013) – The 2013 AMA MAXC Racing Series kicked off this past weekend in Canaan, Indiana at Monster Mountain XC. Located just over an hour from Louisville, KY, the 2013 AMA MAXC Racing Series chose to co-sanction with the Kentucky Cross Country Racing Series (KCCR) hoping to draw in more racers from Kentucky. It was obvious that this year would be a big year for MAXC, as racers and fans rolled into the grassy hillside at Monster Mountain until it was time to race!

Although the weather in Indiana is hit-or-miss, Mother Nature was on our side for the opening round of the 2013 AMA MAXC Racing Season. Clear skies and temperatures ranging from the high 50’s greeted racers on Saturday for a day of action packed XC racing.

This would be the AMA MAXC Racing Series second year at Monster Mountain as they had great response from both racers and spectators of the venue last season. Located in Southern Indiana’s hill country, Monster Mountain features a hilltop clearing with plenty of grass parking overlooking the valleys below. The track once again was around 8 miles long and featured many virgin trails, high-speed field sections, a few hill climbs, and a rugged creek section.

Despite the lead changing hands many times throughout the 7-lap race, it was Am-Pro Yamaha’s #2 Walker Fowler who crossed the finish in first aboard his Yamaha YFZ450R ATV. Walker Fowler had a mid pack start and made his way up from fifth place to first to earn the first win of the 2013 AMA MAXC ATV Racing Season.

On lap number six, Walker Fowler made the pass on Kevin Cunningham when Cunningham missed the faster line allowing Fowler to take over the lead.“That late in the race you just kind of have to press your luck and push one another. Either you’re going to crash or make the pass. Lately I’ve been crashing a lot and today I stayed on the bike the whole race, which was a first for 2013. We had good clean racing and Kevin (Cunningham) missed one line and I got around him. If he (Cunningham) wouldn’t missed the line he would of won the race” explained Lonestar’s Walker Fowler of his last minute pass on fellow MAXC racer Kevin Cunningham for the win.

Finishing just six seconds behind first place of Walker Fowler was Spider Graphix’ Kevin Cunningham aboard his PKG Powersports backed Honda 450R ATV.

He ended up getting around me and I stayed on his tail until the end, but we had a great time doing it!” said Kevin Cunningham

Despite some of the rumors that Taylor Kiser would be racing on a Suzuki LTR450 this year, Kiser laid those rumors to rest when he showed up at the opening round of the AMA MAXC Racing Season. For 2013, Taylor Kiser is once again aboard a Ballance Racing backed Yamaha YFZ450R ATV. This year, Kiser has chosen to take a step back from GNCC Racing and race the AMA MAXC Racing Series full time.

When asked about any off-season training, Kiser stated that he hasn’t done much riding in the offseason, but it sure doesn’t look like Kiser has lost much speed. Kiser was able to lead 2 laps before falling back to third place before the finish earning the final spot on the AMA MAXC Pro AA Class Podium.

Rounding out the Top 5 in the Pro AA ATV Class was defending AMA MAXC Pro AA Class Champion Ryan Lane. Lane had a good run going and lead the race several times until he clipped a tree near the end of the race. Although Lane was uninjured it did however mess up his steering slowing down his pace.

“I went into the woods second. I led pretty much the whole first lap. We just went back and fourth exchanging the lead. When we all pitted it shuffled everything up. I was then third and my hands slipped off the handlebars and clipped a tree and I think I bent something because it wouldn’t turn to the right after that” Explained #1 Ryan Lane.
